1.     The Icon Prize Book Cover Art Contest

 

The Icon Prize is hosting its inaugural competition to select the cover art for the actual re-publication of a literary work. You are invited to participate in an open competition to provide the cover art for the re-publication of the widely-praised literary novel, The Unfastened Heart. The winner of this contest will be awarded The Icon Prize, and will receive $1500 in award money, with his or her artwork to be featured on the new edition of the novel. Participants may enter for consideration graphic art, paintings, photographs, collage art and other visual media based on the novel by submitting a digital photograph of the work (in jpg or jpeg format). This contest is open to anyone, worldwide, and designers/artists of varying backgrounds and experience are welcomed. There is no entry fee. Designers/artists may submit more than one entry. Early entries are encouraged.

 2.     INDEX: Design Challenge: Designing for Education



 INDEX: calls for faculty, students, and recent graduates to participate in the upcoming INDEX: Design Challenge, developed in close collaboration with and endorsed by UNICEF. This year's challenge is a partnership between INDEX: Design to Improve Life, a Denmark-based nonprofit organization promoting the application of design and design processes to improve important areas of people's lives worldwide, and UNICEF, the globally recognized organization that advocates for the rights of children all across the world. The theme of this year's challenge is Designing for Education, a call for design and business students as well as cross-disciplinary student teams to develop design solutions that improve education and the educational environment in developing regions.

  3.     2nd Annual BrickStainable Design Competition



BrickStainable competition is held in pursuit of design solutions that exploit the unique properties of brick masonry construction as well as seek new ideas in the development of this age old building material. The competition has two categories: First Category is Integrated Building Design Competition; the assignment's building will be set in an urban location. The competition seeks integrative design solutions that exploit the thermal qualities of brick masonry construction to create a passively heated and cooled building. Second category is Technical Design Competition; design a single element of a building that provides a sustainable solution to real-world environmental challenges. Jurors will look for evidence of the project's performance and encourage the use of BIM, energy, solar and day light modeling software.

 4.     Worldwide Embroidery Design Competition



The competition is to create your own ORIGINAL design, which will be interpreted in hand embroidery by the experts at the Royal School of Needlework, for the Worshipful Company of Broderers` commemorative table-top Lectern Fall to celebrate the 450th anniversary of their original Royal Charter in 1561, granted by Queen Elizabeth I. This is a Competition open to anyone from anywhere in the world who is interested in design for embroidery and who is over 18 years of age, and enters as an Individual only (no group entries can be accepted). Entry Open Date is 1st June 2010.

5.     Interactive competition



Enter the most prestigious design competition for interactive media, the Communication Arts Interactive Design Competition. Any interactive project created for digital distribution on the World Wide Web, CD-ROM, interactive kiosk or handheld device is eligible. Selected by a nationally representative panel of distinguished programmers, interface designers and creative directors, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Interactive Annual and on commarts.com, assuring important exposure to the creators of this outstanding work.

 Advertising, Entertainment, Information Design, Self-Promotion, and Experimental/Virtual.
